Careful of who you choose as a professional busines coach - my first hand experience

A few years back, I was introduced to the idea of using a personal coach to help my business get off the ground.  I thought to myself hmmmm, when I played sports, every time I used a coach they really helped me get to that next level & in some cases, I really surpassed what I thought I could even do.

So here's my first attempt at coaching.  The coach charges an insane amount of money, $10,000 for 2 months to be exact & acts more as a slave driver than a coach.  Every time I turned around he was pushing & pushing & pushing.  Sure after 2 months of being with him some sales did improve but I was burned out & he ultimately gave me horrible advice that cost me my business.

Almost a year later, I run into Maximum Acceleration coaches that are specific to the mortgage industry. In comes Coach V (Victoria Delfrate).  Coach V & I hit it off right from the start. She starts off learning about my personality type  (High D & I).  By the way, if you don't know what this means, please, please, please read my next blog!! VERY IMPORTANT.  Anyways, Coach V. really took her time to get to know me, what I was looking to accomplish & how I was looking to get there.  So that I keep this blog short, let's just say that she was such an amazing influence in my business that 2 years later she's still my coach & she still gives me fantastic advice.  Coach V really goes the extra mile day in & day out.  Even when I was stubborn & didn't want to listen, she let me do things my way first & then helped me to appreciate a better way of doing things.

So is it worth it hiring a coach? ONLY IF YOU PICK THE RIGHT COACH!! Make sure you do your homework. Find out what their qualifications are.  Make sure that your personalities match.  Remember that this is like any other relationship.  It takes time & hard work to develop but ultimately, it could change your life.

So let me hear what you guys have to say!  What has your experience with personal coaches been?  By the way if you would like to hear more about Coach V, just let me know!

To your success,

Joe

I had an informal coach....my first Broker.  It seames like he always beat me to the punch when I had a good idea...It didn't take to long to see what was happening, and soon I was quiet around him and I started getting ahead.  I left not lang after that and started my own place of business.  Never looked back!

I also had a 'negative' coach who would take my ideas and run. Turned out that 2 months into it they decided not to answer their phone or return emails anymore! Go figure.

I've always wondered about the value of a coach.  It seems a lot of top producers use them....how do you find the right one without wasting time and money choosing?

Coaches are great if you find a good one. We had a coach who was constantly trying to sell us his products. Finally we took our money and ran!

Do yourself a favor & call my coach Victoria Delfrate. I think she is maxed right now but she can definitely put you in touch with someone that can help you.  I emphasize that the RIGHT coach is worth their weight in goal.  Just think if you played basketball & had someone like Coach Phil Jackson from the Lakers coaching you. He's into the whole Zen thing. Now for Shaq & Kobe, Jordan & Pippen, he was amazing! 6 championships.  Or how about a coach like Bill Parcels? Different style.  She is tough!! But he's won the superbowl & taken teams that were losing & made them winners.  The right coach can do that for you.  In my case if I could have done just 2 or 3 of the things Coach V taught me from day 1 I would be retired already.  I seriously mean that. So check it out.  Know what you are looking to accomplish & then set out to find the right coach.  Again call Coach V.  She'll give you some better direction.
